Building a basic weekly deals checklist

A short, regular deals routine saves money on planned spending without becoming a time-consuming habit.

Why a checklist helps

A regular routine for checking deals prevents you from missing offers on things you already buy, while avoiding the trap of chasing deals for things you do not need. A simple weekly checklist keeps deal-finding purposeful rather than reactive. The goal is to save money on planned spending, not to create new spending.

What to check each week

Your supermarket loyalty app personalised offers, any discount codes for retailers you plan to use, and the reduced sections of stores you visit regularly are the three most consistently worthwhile things to check. Spending ten minutes on these before a weekly shop covers the most reliable savings sources without requiring significant time.

Keeping it manageable

Deal-finding can become time-consuming if approached without limits. Setting a rough cap — ten to fifteen minutes per week — keeps the activity productive. Focusing on categories you genuinely spend in prevents the checklist from expanding into a broad search for deals across areas that are not relevant to your actual household spending.
