Free money and debt advice
Citizens Advice offers free, impartial advice on debt, benefits, housing and consumer issues across the UK. StepChange is a dedicated debt charity providing free advice and structured repayment plans for people in financial difficulty. Both are not-for-profit and do not charge for their services — be cautious of paid debt management companies that offer similar-sounding help.
Benefits and financial support
Turn2us is a charity that helps people find benefits, grants and local support they may be entitled to. The government's gov.uk website provides official information on Universal Credit, Council Tax Reduction, free school meals and other support schemes. Entitledto offers a free online benefits calculator that can give you a quick estimate of what you might be able to claim.
Consumer and shopping rights
The Competition and Markets Authority handles complaints about misleading pricing and unfair business practices. The Financial Ombudsman Service can help if you have a dispute with a financial services company that you cannot resolve directly. Which? provides independent consumer advice and actively campaigns on issues affecting UK shoppers.
