Keeping receipts and order emails organised

A simple system for storing proof of purchase saves time and stress if something goes wrong.

Why it matters

A receipt or order confirmation is your proof of purchase if something goes wrong. Without it, returning a faulty item, claiming under a warranty or disputing a charge becomes significantly harder. Developing a simple system for keeping purchase records saves time and frustration later.

A simple digital approach

Forwarding order confirmation emails to a dedicated folder means they are easy to find when needed. Most email apps allow you to create a filter or label for this automatically. For physical receipts, taking a photograph immediately after purchase is usually sufficient for return or warranty purposes.

How long to keep records

For major purchases such as electronics, appliances or furniture, keeping records for at least a year — or longer if a warranty applies — is worthwhile. For everyday shopping, holding records until the return window has passed is generally enough. Clearing out old records periodically keeps the system manageable.
